Fulya Erdemci and Bige Örer were the guests of Budapest Contemporary program and ACAX

This January two prestigious experts of the Istanbul Biennial, Fulya Erdemci and Bige Örer were the guests of the international visitor program Budapest Contemporary organized by Association of Hungarian Contemporary Art Galleries. This year was the 13th occasion to organize the Istanbul Biennial which was founded in 1987. Throughout the history of the acknowledged contemporary biennial Hungarian artists exhibited their works several times, at last in 2011 Dora Maurer and Tamás Kaszás ( in cooperation with Anikó Loránt ) were invited to participate in the event. Fulya Erdemci and Bige Örer spent two days in Budapest in the beginning of January to get familiar with the Hungarian art scene. From the artists of the member galleries of the Association – based on the sent portfolios – they have chosen four. In the coordination of ACAX (Agency of Contemporary Art Exchange), the experts had the chance to meet other artists at Ludwig Museum and in the office of ACAX at the Jurányi Production Community Incubator House. Fulya Erdemci, now the curator of the 13th Biennale of Istanbul, was also the curator of the Turkish pavilion at the 54th Biennale of Venice and from 2008 to 2012 she was the director of SKOR in Amsterdam. Before – from 1994 to 2000 – Fulya Erdemci worked as the director of the Istanbul Biennial. Bige Örer is the program manager of the Istanbul Biennial. She has been working at the coordination of several cultural and artistic projects for the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts from 2003. As an independent expert she takes part actively in forming of the Turkish art scene. Following their visit artist Ádám Kokesch, represented by Kisterem, was selected to participate in the next Istanbul Biennial.
